Briefly describe your program.

I am a schoolteacher and the founder of Voices for the Voiceless. This is a non-profit organization which seeks to educate Utah's youth about history while encouraging an appreciation for the US Constitution and our 1st Amendment rights as Americans. The speech contest we offer is open to grades 1-12. Any youth can sign-up and participate. The contest speeches may be given in three different languages: English, Chinese and Russian. We have a Sign-up Genius link for students to choose their speech times at the library. Speech times are limited to 1-3 minutes in length. Parents and members of the public are welcome to support and observe speeches as they are presented. The contest finals will be held at the Utah State Capitol building on Saturday, November 4th from 2-6 pm. There is no money at any time solicited for participation. All youth are given a signed copy of the book, "Breaking Stalin's Nose" as a thank you for participation. This contest is sponsored by my husband and me, and various friends in the community. It's a fantastic opportunity to see and hear the voices of children in our state share their love of America!
