Briefly describe your program.
This will be a chess tournament just like the one on 3/19. There will be 2 sections, one unrated section, and a rated section. Anyone can play in the unrated section without paying any fees or membership of any kind. This will be open to anyone and everyone who wants to play a game of chess.
In addition, if both players agree, their game can be rated by the United States Chess Federation (USCF) which is a non-profit organization. USCF requires persons to pay for a membership in order for their games to be rated. Ratings are used to determine the level of a player, and that information is used to make fair pairings when selecting who will be playing each other in a game. Most serious chess players already have a membership with USCF, and we would like to give players the option to have their games rated at this chess tournament. We (the tournament directors) would not charge any fees to anyone who wanted to play in the tournament. Anyone could play in the unrated section (without a USCF membership) but we are going to give players the option to have their games rated with USCF.
